Resource: Fact Sheet

Civic Engagement at a Glance

Contact:  Barbara Radke, radke008@umn.edu

Description:  This publication, developed by Extension professionals at the University of Minnesota Extension Service, presents a model or process of civic engagement. This model represents a holistic approach to civic engagement that consists of five stages. These are:

  • Prepare
  • Inquire
  • Analyze
  • Synthesize
  • Act Together

Conveners and community are identified as the two partners in civic engagement. The five stages illustrate how conveners and community can move from launching deliberative work to implementation of specific strategies that address a public issue.
